The Ghana Education Service (GES) have responded to the demise of Nathaniel Yankey, a final year student at Gwiraman Senior High School in the Western Region.
Nathaniel Yankey was pronounced dead in the early hours of Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at the Essikado Hospital after complaining of a severe headache.

The news of his demise has generated an unease rest in the media with many blaming the school authorities for not attending to the deceased when he complained of a severe headache while in school.
But the Ghana Education Service has swiftly responded to the demise of the 21-year old, stating that the school authorities should not be blamed for the death of Nathaniel Yankey.
A statement from the GES explain that, the Gwiraman Senior High School is a E-Block community day school but some parents including that of the deceased have rented a private hostel for their wards where they commute to and from school.

The hostel, according to the statement from the Ghana Education Service, are owned by private individuals and not the authorities of the school.
The Statement further explain that, Nathaniel Yankey left the hostel to his parent’s house when he felt unwell last Friday and the school authorities were notified.

He was pronounced dead on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 and the school was informed of his demise when they called to check on him.
