The President of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), Cudjoe Fianoo, has called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to enter into early discussions with the Ghana Police to ensure that football clubs travel across the country and receive a full security escort.
On Wednesday, the Legon Cities team bus was attacked on their way to Accra after playing with Samatex 1996. However, in an interview with Citi Sports, Mr. Fianoo reiterated the need for collaborative efforts between GHALCA and GFA to curb such incidents since it is not the first time this has happened to a team.
“We need to get back to the police and see what we have to do to help the clubs.” “So anytime we travel outside the Ashanti Region, we were given two police escorts for the away matches, it comes with a cost though, he said.”
“However, I think as a precautionary measure, we must go back to the police, let us take the lives of the players and the officials as a premium.
“We have to arrange something for the clubs, so they stop travelling overnight after games. “We are not lucky, our brothers from other countries travel by train or air.”
The Legon Cities IT manager also spewed out his grievances by saying the Ghana Police were sitting down and doing nothing after the incident.
