The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has indefinitely banned Nsoatreman FC from using Nana Koramansah Park as their home venue following violent incidents during their Ghana Premier League Matchday 19 fixture against Asante Kotoko on February 2, 2025.
The match, which ended in a 1-0 victory for Nsoatreman, descended into chaos after the final whistle, leading to the tragic death of Asante Kotoko supporter Francis Yaw Frimpong (popularly known as “Pooley”). Several individuals sustained injuries, while property, including communication and media equipment, was vandalized.
Reports indicate that tensions escalated after the game, resulting in violent clashes among players, staff, and supporters. Kotoko’s Head of Media suffered a severe ear injury from a projectile, while goalkeeper Mohammed Camara was physically assaulted by fans who stormed the pitch.
Condemning the “acts of violence and lawlessness,” the GFA invoked Article 14(2) of the Premier League Regulations to impose the ban on Nsoatreman’s home venue. The association also directed its Security Committee, led by DCOP Lydia Donkor, and FA prosecutors to compile evidence for disciplinary proceedings. Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has launched a full-scale investigation to identify and prosecute those responsible for the violence.
Asante Kotoko strongly denounced the “senseless” killing and called for stricter security measures, citing a hostile atmosphere from the moment their team arrived at the stadium. In response, Nsoatreman FC expressed condolences to the bereaved family and pledged full cooperation with investigations.
The incident has reignited discussions on fan safety and hooliganism in Ghanaian football. The GFA reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance on violence, warning of severe sanctions against individuals or clubs found culpable.
Further updates on legal and disciplinary actions are expected in due course.
