Trabzonspor forward Caleb Ekuban late strike secured victory for Ghana against Kenya in the 2019 last AFCON qualifiers today at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The encounter which saw Accra Sports Stadium almost filled out was to determine who enters the prestigious tournament in Egypt as leaders of the group F table.
The four times champions opened the the game on a higher note, pressing and knocking at the defense of the Harambee Stars to get the opener but all efforts went fruitless as the Kenyans defended gallantly.
Jordan Ayew, Christian Atsu and Mubarak Wakaso had great opportunities to open the deadlock for the Black Stars but all chances were blew away. The first forty-five minutes ended in a stalemate.
Ghana returned from the tunnel with much resilience to get the opener but the Harambee Stars continued to maintained their composure and defended brilliantly until they got settled in the game.
Ekuban eventually ensured that, Ghana lead the group F table of the qualifiers with his late strike, securing the three maximum points for the home side. The game ended 1:0 in favour of the West African giant.
The 32nd edition of the prestigious tournament on the African continent is scheduled for June this year in Egypt with Ghana determined to lift the trophy for the fifth time after winning the fourth and the last in 1982 under the tutulage of late head coach C.K Gyamfi.
