The Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition on the 13th of September launched it “Citizen Budget” in Takoradi
In a bid to deepen understanding and practicality of the citizenry in the economic policy and budget statements, the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition launched its’ Citizen Budget in Takoradi.
The event held on 13 September at the SSNIT conference hall, Takoradi witnessed the participation of traditional authorities, civil society groups, public sector, media and the public. Participants were taken through the breakdown of the budgetary components of total petroleum receipts, composition of domestic revenue, distribution of Petroleum revenue, and the district assembly common fund.

The event according to a research officer with the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition, Samuel Harrison Cudjoe is to delineate components of the national budget for the citizenry to better appreciate and apply them in their daily discourse and livelihood.
He said;”we wanted to simplify the national budget…its a bulky document with so many figures, so many terms. We wanted to make it in such a way that if anybody pick our budget, they could easily explain the issues in there because they’d understand the issues. And to make sure they understand it, we have to break the budget down to the everyday language that we use so that we can easy understand that’s why we did today’s seasons”
Mr Samuel Harrison Cudjoe expects participants to share learning with colleagues at home for a wider behavioural change. He charged that the citizenry commit to such actions to curb corruption in the country.

“Beyond that are also looking at a wider outcome of behavioral change. Corruption starts with us… you don’t need to be a politician for you to be corrupt”, he said.
