Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council member Nana Oduro Sarfo says the West African country is living on past glory as four time AFCON champions.
It has been 42 good years since Ghana last won the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title, and they have not been competitive for over five years. Ghana failed to qualify for the 2025 AFCON, finishing bottom of their qualifying group without winning a match.
The Black Stars have also not made it past the group stage of any major tournament since the 2019 AFCON.
Looking at the team’s current situation, Sarfo emphasized the need to forget about winning trophies for the moment and focus on rebuilding the team. He told Accra based Asempa Radio,
“I have told you that all that goes up, comes down. Ghana is living on past glory.”
“We have to think about rebuilding. We need to focus on rebuilding, and if you are rebuilding, you have to forget about trophies.
“Forget about immediate glory and give yourself time to rebuild the national team, but all of us want quick results for just today. We are not thinking about rebuilding.”
