The Youth and Sports Minister, Hon. Isaac Kwame Asiamah is confident that Ghana will clinch the AFCON 2019 which is scheduled to kickstart in Egypt next month.
Ghana is determined to lift the ultimate for the fifth time after last winning it in 1982 when late Emmanuel Quarshie was the skipper for the Black Stars.
Speaking during a dinner invitation by President Akufo-Addo at the State Banquet Hall at the Jubilee House in Accra on Thursday, May 30, 2019, the Member of Atwima Mponua assured Ghanaians a fifth AFCON trophy, stating that, the team has enough team players that can lift the ultimate in Egypt next month.
” To win the AFCON, a team must be of team players and perseverance and I know the Black Stars boast of that and we are winning the AFCON come what may”, the minister said during the President dinner with the Black Stars team.
The Black Stars will depart for the United Arab Emirates on Saturday, June 1, 2019 to begin a PRE-AFCON camping with a 29 man list. The team will engage South Africa and Namibia in friendlies before the squad will be prune down to 23 for the main tournament in Egypt.
André Dede Ayew will serve as the team captain with Kwadwo Asamoah as deputy whiles Asamoah Gyan has been assigned the general captain role.
