The Ghana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) joined the global community to celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8, 2025, with a fun-filled day of activities at the Labadi Beach.
The event, which was organized by the Ghana Rugby Ladies, brought together women from different backgrounds to celebrate their love for rugby and to promote women’s empowerment in the sport.
According to Ms. Rafatu Inusah, Ghana Rugby Board Women’s Representative, the event was a huge success, with women coming together to play and have fun, as well as to discuss the way forward for women’s rugby in Ghana.
“It was a great day for ladies, not only coming together to play and have fun, but to discuss the way forward for women’s rugby in Ghana,” Inusah said. “Clearly, the women are really ready to push themselves and committed to a call. Even though it was a holiday, the committed ladies, for the love of rugby, made their way to come and play rugby to celebrate WOMEN IN RUGBY.”
The event featured a range of activities, including a 7s rugby tournament, a clean-up exercise at the beach, pillow fighting, tag and war games, and a bottle flip challenge.
The Ghana Rugby Football Union is committed to promoting women’s rugby in Ghana and to providing opportunities for women to participate in the sport.
“We are proud to celebrate International Women’s Day with our women’s rugby team,” said Richard Achore, President of the Ghana Rugby Football Union. “We believe that women’s rugby has the power to inspire and empower women, and we are committed to supporting the growth and development of the sport in Ghana.”
