President Akufo-Addo has said airline companies operating in Ghana would pay a fine of $3,500 on every unvaccinated passengers.
According to the President, the initiative forms part of the directives to prevent a fourth wave of the devastating coronavirus during the festive season.[ads2]
In a nationwide broadcast on Wednesday, December 15, President Akufo-Addo urged airline companies to ensure passengers are vaccinated before flying them to the country.
He said about seventy percent of the country’s coronavirus cases recorded at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra are passengers who haven’t vaccinated.[ads3]
President Akufo-Addo reiterated that a communique has already been sent from the presidency to all the airline companies.
On December declared as a month of vaccination, President Akufo-Addo said, “this December is declared VACCINATION MONTH and aggressive campaign for vaccination being launched.
“As at Tuesday, 14/12/2021, the Ghana Health Service has received a total of 17,736,710 vaccine doses, out of that, 6,420,973 have been administered making over 11 million more doses available for vaccination. Another 8,529,090 vaccine doses expected by the close of the year to add to the already 17,736,710 vaccines in the country.[ads4]
“Total expected vaccines by the end of the year around 26 million almost equivalent to the Ghana population. Ghana land borders remain closed to prevent a further 4th wave of COVID-19 infection.”[ads5]
