Four Ghanaian match officials are participating in the Confederation of African Football (CAF’s) groundbreaking VAR (Video Assistant Referee) training in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
Being the first-ever VAR training session organised by CAF for all of its zones—with WAFU B zone leading the way—this course represents a major milestone.
The team from Ghana consists of two seasoned FIFA referees, Rita Ama Nkansah Boateng and Julian Nii Akwa Nunoo, as well as two renowned instructors: Alex Kotey, the head of referees for GFA and a CAF Technical Instructor, and Emmanuella Aglago, a VAR instructor with training from the CAF.
By providing officials with the most recent VAR methods and strategies, the program seeks to improve the calibre of officiating in the area.
The training is a component of CAF’s larger plan to raise officiating standards throughout the continent by standardising and improving them.
Ghana’s dedication to raising football officiating standards is demonstrated by this project, which also emphasises Ghana’s proactive role in influencing the direction of African football.
By establishing the standard for other zones to follow, the WAFU B zone ensures a more dependable and uniform officiating framework throughout CAF events.
