The Government has announced that Ghana’s 68th Independence Day celebration will take place at Jubilee House in Accra instead of the traditional Independence Square.
Minister for Government Communications, Felix Ofosu Kwakye, made this known at a press conference on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, stating that the decision was aimed at reducing costs.
“This year’s celebration will be modest but significant, ensuring we mark this important occasion without straining the national purse. Instead of the grand spectacle we have seen in previous years, we will hold a meaningful event at the presidency,” he explained.
He further emphasized that hosting the event at Jubilee House would help minimize the financial burden that usually comes with the celebration.
The program will feature a Military Guard of Honour, reviewed by the President, cultural performances by two groups of basic school pupils, and a poetry recital by senior high school students. A select group of individuals from society will be invited to witness the event, which will also include the President’s ceremonial address.
