The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has strongly condemned the actions of the 3rd Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Osman Masawudu in a press briefing following an incident in which he threw away a microphone belonging to TV3 and issued threats against the media house during an event involving a new political party.
Describing the act as an attack on press freedom and professional journalism, the GJA urged the Ghana Police Service to promptly interrogate the official involved and take appropriate steps in line with the law. He asked the 3rd Vice Chairman of the NPP withdraws threatening statements as GJA stands ready to reconcile both parties after the impasse.
Prior to this, Media General issued a Press Release condemning the act and lodging a complaint with the Ghana Police on threats by Alhaji Osman Masawudu.
In the Press briefing by the GJA, the President of the association Albert Kwabena Dwumfour GJA emphasized the importance of accountability, while also calling for dialogue and reconciliation between the NPP and Media General, the parent company of TV3.
