GNPC Foundation, the social Corporate arm of the Ghana National Petroleum Commission (GNPC) has cut a sod for the construction of an Artificial Turf at Dompim-Pepesa in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal in the Western region, to be completed in eight-months.
The colourful event was attended by Manager, GNPC Sustainability Division Dr Patrick Ofori, who represented the company’s Chief Executive Dr Kofi Kodua Sarpong and his immediate boss Dr Kwame Baah Nuako.
Member of Parliament for Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency George Mireku Duker, Municipal Chief Executive K.D Asmah, chief of Dompim Nana Kweku Nkrumah as well as president of Medeama Sporting Club Moses Armah were also in attendance.
“Thank you to Nana and the elders for given us such a warm reception. When Dr K.K. Sarpong became the Chief Executive of GNPC, he directed that the organisation’s CSR office be stationed in Takoradi so that the necessary focus could be given to the people of the Western region.” Dr Ofori said at the event.
The chief of the area, Nana Kweku Nkrumah also posited: “We want to thank GNPC for the great work. We will use this turf to remember what the government has done for our town. We should all come together to help the government to succeed.”
The pitch comes with a fence, four (4) floodlights and a standby generator to provide light in the evenings when there is no power from the national grid. This will make the facility usable at all times.
The GNPC Foundation has undertaken similar project in Bekwai with works ongoing in Effiakuma in Takoradi.
Other projects are expected to take in Duayaw Nkwanta in the Brong Ahafo Region and Koforidua in the Eastern region.
The move formed part of the foundation’s core objectives towards providing sports infrastructure and contributing to the development of sports and physical education among the youths.
