The GNPC Foundation, the corporate social investments arm of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, on Thursday, August 1, 2019 cut sod for the construction of an ultra modern AstroTurf facility at Apenkwa Community Park in Accra.
The short ceremony was graced by the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu and MP for the area, Mr. Patrick Yaw Boamah.
Executive Director of the GNPC Foundation, Dominic Eduah, stated that his outfit’s vision is to positively affect the lives of Ghanaians through Education, Health and Environmental projects as well as in the provision of social amenities.
He stressed on the importance of sports infrastructure development and its role in the nurturing of talents at the local level.
In an address read on his behalf, the Chief Imam expressed his gratitude to GNPC Ghana for its numerous social intervention programmes aimed at improving the livelihoods of Ghanaians. He further urged the beneficiary community to, on the facility’s completion, ensure its proper maintenance to ensure longevity for the use of future generations.
On his part, Hon. Boamah, assured that a good management plan would be instituted to ensure the facility serves its intended purpose.
The 100 by 60 astroturf is expected to be completed in four months which would also include fencing and lightening of the playing field.
