Executive Director of the GNPC Foundation, Dr. Dominic Eduah, on an inspection visit to some Corporate Social Investment (CSI) projects currently being funded by the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) in the Ashanti Region, has urged the Contractor working on the Manhyia Astroturf to expedite work on the project.
The inspection, which took place on the sidelines of the handing-over of some other completed projects in the region was aimed at gathering, at first hand, the progress of work on various projects currently ongoing and to assure stakeholders of the Foundation’s commitment to their timely completion.
Although work has commenced, the Astroturf project located at the Konadu-Yiadom M/A Basic School in the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) appears to be moving at a slower pace due to some structural challenges faced by the contractor. This, according to Dr. Eduah, has now been addressed and thus a need to speed up construction activities at the site.[ads2]
The full standard-sized pitch, upon completion, would be equipped with a fence and floodlights to permit nighttime community football games as is consistent with GNPC’s standard astroturf design across the country.
In a short address, Dr. Eduah noted that GNPC’s CSR focus is driven by its commitment to improving the livelihoods of people and needy communities across the country. According to him, football as an economic activity has proven to provide tremendous opportunities to many talented Ghanaian youths to change not only their lives but also that of their families, communities, and Ghana as a whole. This, he said, remains a key goal of GNPC’s sports infrastructure development agenda.[ads3]
Accompanied by the Head of the Environment & Social Amenities Unit at the GNPC Foundation, Madam Lubaabat Habib-Jawulaa, Dr. Eduah, together with the Contractor, and Project Consultant, also made stops at Beposo to inspect the state of work on a 12-unit Sanitary facility being constructed to serve Boamah Kwabi DA Basic School and the community.
The Sekyere Central District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Kojo Banahene Bediako, expressed his gratitude to the Foundation for taking the initiative to provide the facility for the community that had been in dire need of it and prayed for speedy completion of the project.
At Apaa, in Mampong, the team visited the site of the construction of a 24-unit sanitary facility for the Opoku Agyemang Senior High Technical School. The project when completed would have 12-unit each serving as toilet and bath facilities for students.[ads4]
Stressing on the several dire consequences of poor sanitary conditions, Madam, Habib-Jawulaa said there was a need for a drastic change in attitude towards the environment and personal hygiene, and hence her outfit’s mandate in contributing to improving sanitary conditions of many underserved communities.
The headmaster of the school, Mr. Enoch Bremang Addo, thanked GNPC for coming to their aid and in assisting to solve some of the school’s most critical challenges.
