The NDC has refused to accept defeat after the Electoral Commission declared President Akufo-Addo of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the winner of the just ended general elections.
According to the NDC, the election was rigged by the Electoral Commission to favor the NPP and therefore will use every legitimate means to challenge the decision.[ads2]
This came with a nationwide demonstration and protests by the NDC with those in Accra storming the Electoral Commission headquarters.
But Dr. Henry Lartey believes it will be unnecessary for John Dramani Mahama and the NDC to challenge the decision at court rather they should concede defeat and plan for the next election in 2024.[ads3]
“He has lost the election, he shouldn’t go to court; it’s a waste of money. The presidential candidates, those of us who conceded have come together to maintain peace, we are trying to engage the former president but we were not able to see him. This is not the Mahama I know, he is a very open person but what is happening is not good for his reputation,” he said on JoyNews in Accra.
“Mahama is been pushed to do what he is doing. I have no idea who is behind this, but he wouldn’t want to do this at all. I may be wrong but I have a feeling that there is a caucus that is pushing him.[ads4]
“We were a team of six including myself, Dr Hassan Ayarigah of APC, Ivor Greenstreet of the CPP, David Apasera of PNC, JOY 2012/16, and Kofi Akpaloo of IPG, we tried to meet him…. If the NDC wants peace this is not how to deal with it,” he concluded…[ads5]
