The Ghana Easter Paragliding Festival is an annual event that takes place during Easter (usually in April). Seasoned pilots from all over the world have been invited to fly hundreds of people during the three to four day event at Kwahu Atibie.
Over the years, the event has flown thousands of people and provided them with unforgettable experiences.
The 2022 edition promises to be even better, with more tours, hiking, and adventure options. Around three million people are expected to attend and participate in this year’s event, which begins on April 15th 2020.
The Ghana Paragliding Festival has evolved into an important component of the annual Kwahu Easter festivities.
The event resurrected the previously dormant Kwahu Easter festival and transformed Ghana’s Easter celebration into an international event.
The festival’s origins can be traced back to March 2003, when Mr. Jake Tonka Obetsebi-Lamptey, the new Minister of Tourism and Modernization in Accra, visited the Kwahu ridge as part of his familiarization tour of the country and by chance crossed paths with the festival’s organizer, Walter Neser.
The first Ghana Paragliding Festival, in 2005, was launched by H.E. Alhaji Aliu Mahama, Ex-vice President of the Republic of Ghana.
The festival was renamed the Kwahu Easter Festival in 2010 under the leadership of the Ghana Tourism Authority’s Chief Executive Officer (Julius Debrah) in collaboration with Adom fm (a local fm station and member of the Multimedia Group) and has since incorporated numerous activities such as hiking the Odweanoma mountain, walkerton, telescope viewing from the Mt. Odweanoma Observatory, Jams, Dubar of Chiefs and People of Kwahu, Music Album lunches etc.
For four days of magnificent aerial pleasure, ceremony, and music, the Kwahu Paragliding Festival attracts both Ghanaians and foreigners.
Tandem paraglider pilots from across the world have come for the last five years to fly local Ghanaians and foreign guests. The festival is also open to solo pilots, and it features constant flying conditions that start around mid-morning and go until late in the day.
The thermals are typically large and gentle, providing an excellent chance for both inexperienced pilots to gain vital experience and airtime and for seasoned pilots to enjoy hours of “stress free” flying.
Goldstar Air, wings of Ghana, recently presented various items, including T-shirts and boxes of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to the Ghana Tourism Authority in support of their public-private partnership forum, which was held on Thursday, March 24, 2022 at Noda Hotel, Fumesua Kumasi under the theme “Scaling up Public Private Partnership for Inclusive Tourism Growth” and covered the topics: “Promoting Investment into Tourism and Hospitality Sector” and bridging the skills gab in the industry.
The purpose of the public-private partnership forum established under article 42 of the Tourism Act 2011 (Act 817) is to engage the private sector in discussions about issues that affect Ghana’s tourism growth.
On September 22, 2020, Goldstar Air in collaboration with E-Station, a Chinese logistics company donated assorted personal protective equipment (PPE) to the Ghana Police Service at their headquarters in Accra to highlight their daily activities in response during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Goldstar Air’s corporate social responsibility is a concept in which the airline integrates social and environmental concerns into their business operations and interactions with stakeholders, which will be expanded to include other institutions.
For in-flight security, the airline will collaborate closely with security agencies such as the Ghana Police Service, who will travel as Air Marshalls to protect our aircrafts and passengers from acts of unlawful interference.
The intention as Ghanaians is to build a state-of-the-art and trend-setting aviation industry able to compete within the international market in terms of safety, quality, reliability, punctuality, efficiency and costs and would improve the Ghanaian economy through the provision of affordable and available international travel and provide job opportunities.
