The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development (MoFAD) is expected to launch the Aquaculture for Food and Jobs Programme this year as part of moves to make fish farming a viable industry in Ghana.
According to the sector Minister, Hawa Koomson, the government will soon launch the initiative which according to her, is similar to the planting for food and jobs programme.[ads2]
Speaking at the Minister’s Press briefing, Hawa Koomson said the programme is nearing completion and would cover 13 regions which include Ahafo, Ashanti, Oti and Upper East regions.
She said the initiative will seek to increase domestic fish production and create jobs along the aquaculture value chain.
In a related development, the Minister has indicated that processes have begun to digitize trading of premix fuel to address the challenge of hoarding.[ads5]
