Minister of Youth and Sports, Honorable Isaac Kwame Asiamah has revealed government of Ghana’s plans to create an elite sports fund for athletes in sports as stimulus package to cushion them in the era of Covid-19 Pandemic.
Honorable Isaac Kwame Asiamah made this known a press briefing organized by the Ministry of Information as an update of what’s happening in the sports sector.
The President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo evoked some of the restrictions on non-contact sports, permitting 14 sporting disciplines to train from June 5, 2020.
The decision by the president necessitated questions as to what’s happening in the other sporting disciplines, with football being the major hit at the particular moment.

The Minister for Ministry of Youth and Sports said football and other contacts sports are going through phases to ensure being eased off all restrictions.
Adding that it’ll take about GHS 60,000.00 for each football match to be held; the amount will cater testing of the players and other important essentials to be provided at these grounds.
He again added that government have putting plans in place to create a fund through the Youth Employment Agency to assist footballers and other athletes.
“If we are to play Ghana Premier League matches behind closed doors, players testing and other preparations will amount to about GHS 60,000.00 per game. As a way to mitigate the monetary plight of athletes caused by the COVID-19 Pandemic, the sports ministry is collaborating…to Institute a stimulus package called YOUTH IN ELITE SPORTS FOR GHANA” – Honorable Isaac Kwame Asiamah.
