2017/2018 Tanzanian Premier league Champions Simba Sporting Club defeated FA Cup winners Mtibwa Sugar 2-1 on Saturday at the CCDM Kirumba Sports Stadium at Mwanza, Tanzania to win the the 2018 Community Shield Cup .
Ghanaian trio of Nicholas Gyan, James Kotei and Akwasi Asante were all in action for 90 minutes for the Msimbazi Kariakoo based club when they defeated Mtibwa Sugar 2-1.
The Champions opened the scoring in the 29 minute of the first half through their striker Meddie Kagere but the celebration for the red and white fans was cut short Kelvin Kongwe got the equaliser in the 33rd minute for the Turiani based club to end the first half at 1-1.
The match winner for Simba sc came in the 46th minutes of the second when Hassan Dilinga slot home a nice cross from the left side of to send the fans into massive jubilation at the CCM Kirumba Stadium in Mwanza,Tanzania.
This is the second trophy won by the Ghanaian trio at Simba sc after winning the 2017/2018 Tanzania League title in May.
Simba Sc will represent Tanzania in the 2018/2019 Caf Champions League.
They started the preseason training with the 2018 Cecafa Kagame Cup where they lost 2-1 to Azam fc in the final at the National Stadium, before traveling to Turkey for a two weeks training tour where they engaged in a series of friendly matches .
They also drew 1-1 with Ghanaian giant Kumasi Asante Kotoko for the 2018 Simba Day Celebration match at the National Stadium in Tanzania.
The Champions will open their title defence for the 2018/2019 League season next week with a game against Tanzania Prisons.
