Former Eleven Wise Chairman, Honorable Joe Ghartey has revealed he was saved by the bell from the May 9 Disaster by fans of Hasaacas FC.
According to the member of parliament for Essikado-Ketan Constituency, he nearly fell victim to the unforgettable incident that happened at the Accra Sports Stadium on May 9, 2001 which took the lives of 126 supporters.

Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko renewed their rivalry on the day which ended 2-1 for the host, Hearts of Oak.
The day, has been touted as the worst 90 minutes of African football history.

The Railway Development Minister surmised that he engaged in an argument with some unidentified supporters of Hasaacas after the first half and that stopped his plans to move from the VIP Section to the Popular stance where the incident started from.
“Hasaacas fans saw me on my way to sit in the popular stand where most people died. Hasaacas fans saved me, when they saw me, they said, that’s Eleven Wise Chairman. And we started arguing so I had to remain at the popular stand. I love Eleven Wise, today football is business but before football was love and passion mostly”.

The MP for Essikado-Ketan made the comments during the launch of the policy document and management team of Sekondi Eleven Wise.
