Hearts of Oak defender Samuel Inkoom is confident that the team will give an enthralling performance in Africa next season.
The Phobians will be participating in the 2022/23 CAF Confederation Cup after winning the Ghana FA Cup at the expense of Bechem United.
Hearts of Oak had a shambolic campaign in Africa last season, losing woefully to Wydad Club and JS Soaura in the final preliminary round of the CAF Champions League and the Confederation Cup respectively.
But Inkoom who performed extraordinary for the Rainbow giants in the just ended league season in Ghana, believes himself and Sulley Muntari will do everything possible to ensure that the entire team give a good account of themselves in Africa next season.
“We have something special for Hearts of Oak fans.. We know playing in Africa is not easy but myself and Sulley Muntari are ready to bring on board our experience and encourage the entire team too. This time around, it won’t be 6:1 that happened before”, Samuel Inkoom said in an interview on Max TV.
The former FC Basel right-back, however, called for the support of government to improve the standard of the domestic league in order to attract investors who will inject money into the league to curtail the high rate of player exodus in the country.
According to the 33-year old who joined Hearts of Oak on a year deal in April, 2022, Ghana lack good pitches – a thing he believes is not helping the local-based players to showcase their God-given talents enough.
“Also I want everyone to make big impact in the Ghana league because that’s all that we have as a country, the clubs are doing well but we only need good sponsors. I will plead with President Akufo-Addo and his government to get us 4-5 good pitches that will enable the players to showcase their talents for people to know that our league is the best in order to attract better sponsors”, Samuel Inkoom who is regarded as Asante Kotoko legend despite playing for rival club Hearts of Oak added ..
