Rugby Africa President Herbert Mensah delivered a touching speech at the Bloomberg New Economy Gateway Africa Summit held at Morocco on Tuesday June 13, 2023.
The speech centered on the topic “sports in Africa and and what it means for the economic development in Africa with solid local investment”.
Mr Herbert Mensah touched on various means that profits can be maximized and ways we should diligently seek to improve the marginalized impact of sports here compared to other continents.
“Yes sport is BIG business and Africa NEEDS and DESERVES more Remember it all starts with a mindset change.
“Today, I spoke at the Bloomberg New Economy GateWay Africa event in Morocco on the Topic ”The future of sports in Africa and what it means for economic development in Africa with solid local investment.”
“My presentation was anchored on my mantra, which is that sports is big business everywhere else and can be so also in Africa if we model ourselves and present ourselves as such to the global world by encouraging local investment in sports.
“After all, the best athletes in the world are originally from Africa. Therefore, it is not for lack of talent in Africa but lack of investment. Everyone must get involved including our governments in Africa as well as the business world in general must invest more in sports.
“This can only come with a major mindset change in the running of sports in Africa because at the end of the day, like in everything else, it is all about the money.
“This is where we are heading with Rugby, the second biggest sport in the world. And so must it be for all other sports in Africa!”
The former Asante Kotoko Head of Management is currently in his first year after being elected and the chairman of the Africa Rugby Federation this year.
