Renowned sports administrator, Herbert Mensah has hailed Asante Kotoko CEO Nana Yaw Amponsah for an incredible performance since assuming the top seat at the Ghanaian club.
According to the President of the Ghana Rugby Football Union, Nana Yaw Amponsah has been spectacular with his off the field efforts in securing numerous sponsorship deals to run the club.
Herbert Mensah who is a former Asante Kotoko Chairman said this when Nana Yaw Amponsah paid him a courtesy visit in Accra on Wednesday.[ads2]
He wrote that, “I had a wonderful surprise today whilst I was still in my gym when Nana Yaw Amponsah paid me a courtesy call.
“I have been hugely impressed with his off field efforts which has seen him raise some 6m in sponsorship from a variety of organisations!
“Decisions which have led to an overhaul of the technical team and part of the playing body are laying the grounds for future success. I wish him well.[ads3]
“I pray he is supported as he gets his programme of transformation through!.. Oh yes I was honoured to be given a Kotoko jersey!!”
Herbert Mensah is regarded as one of the best CEOs to have ever handled Asante Kotoko since the formation of the club in August 1935.
Mr Mensah was appointed board chairman of Asante Kotoko by the then Asantehene, Otumfuo Opoku Ware II, in 1999.
The ace administrator set out to restore the success of earlier glories of the then failing club by implementing a five-year plan, which included sponsorships, the introduction of professional training facilities, and a transparent financial approach to the books.
Herbert Mensah left Kotoko in 2003 and later became involved in running a rival club in the Ashanti area, Ashantigold.[ads4]
In December 2004, Kotoko was runner-up in the African Cup Winners’ Cup and went on to achieve more success in the years that followed kind courtesy the conscientious works by Herbert Mensah.
Herbert Mensah has been credited with making a major contribution to changing the face of Ghanaian profession football.
By 2004, he had established the SOS (Strategic Outsourcing Solutions) network, which provided management services to football and continues to be a link between grass-roots sport and the professional world…[ads5]
