There is an adage that “You never get the second chance to make the right impression” but it seems most job seekers forget about this when attending a job interview.
Having noted the rate at which most job seekers fail at interview due to their impression, I hereby present readers how to groom right for an interview along with the right posture and demeanour to adopt when undergoing an interview with a prospective employer. So endeavor to educate yourself and ensure you book your mirror copies in advance!
Quite a lot has been said with regard to choosing the appropriate attire for your job interview. This is because your grooming can effectively land you the job or ensure that you lose it.

For individuals who might have spent months or even years looking for a job attending one interview or another, this can be very devastating. Yet, time and again I observe with regret a lot of prospective employees repeat the same mistakes over and over with regard to choosing the right clothes for a job interview.
As a matter of fact, experts have asserted that the probability of you landing that job is enhanced by seventy percent of you get your grooming right.
There are some basic principles that should guide your choice of clothing when attending a job interview. Some of these are;
Never take your prospective employer for granted. The fact that you have been invited to attend a job interview in let’s say a printing press or as a driver does not grant you the liberty to dress anyhow and in anything.
It is absolutely ridiculous to show up in a tattered jeans, T-shirts or slippers popularly called ‘Charlie Wote”. You must be dressed professionally even if the occasion is just to deliver your CV.
For men dressing for a corporate interview
The choice of suit: A simple two-piece single-breasted or double-breasted suit is a must. If you don’t have one, have a friend lend you one or offer to hire it from him. Ensure that your suit is neat and well ironed. If there are particles in your suit then buy a lint brush and gently roll over your suit to get them off. Your suit should fit and not tighten you excessively.

Choice of colour: Your suit should be in a conservative colour such as navy colour or a dark colour. Please avoid beige and light brown. Avoid wearing black if you can as it tends to portray a power struggle between your and your interviewer.
If you don’t have a dark suit then wear your black and ensure that you tone down the severity by wearing a blued shirt.
Shirt
A whit shirt or pastel coloured shirt will never fail you, when unable to find one a light blue shirt is a good option. Ensure that your choice of neck tie blends or matches with your suit colour. Please no funny-looking tie, especially those with inscriptions. Do we to avoid them.
Hair care
A short and trimmed hair is always a winner. This is not the time to sporty wave your hair, or have it glister with loads of hair pomade. Neither do you want to go in there with your hair in an afro style. You want to avoid a bad haircut.

Jewellery
Absolutely no earrings, our socio-cultural setting does not permit that. No neck chains , bracelets and nose rings. Not if you really want the job. A simple watch will do and for those married just your wedding band is fine.
Shoes
Your shoes must be dark and conservative. Learn to match your shoes with your belt. Combine your dark shoes with dark and not white sports socks or multicoloured socks.
Bag
A simple briefcase or folder to put in your documents is in order. Please no overly large case. This is also not the time to carry a large travelling bag! Depending on your interview demands you may need to carry a lot of items. Should that be the case then a decent large bag with your items can be carried.
Personal Hygiene
Your fingernails must be trimmed short and neat. Use a deodorant to lend you a pleasant smell or an antiperspirant if you sweat a lot. You really don’t want the interview panel opening windows and doors as soon as you walk in. If you have someone you trust, ask to find out if you have any body odour and work on it.
Your face
If you can, a clean shaven look works better than sporting a beard or moustache. Do not display any tattoos you may have acquired as this can put off interviewers who may have a negative view of people with tattoos.
Perfume/Body splash
These items should be used sparingly. Do not pour on your perfume or cologne, a few dab here and there or a little spray is all you need.
