Mohammed Polo has revealed he was displeased when he was labeled as a caretaker coach during his stint as the head coach of Hearts of Oak.
The Legendary Hearts of Oak winger returned to coach the club in the 2013/2014 season(his second spell as a coach) and was shown the exit after the following season when he finished 13 in a 16 team league.
Recounting some of the things that contributed to his below par performance, the gaffer revealed that management and the board have their place so is the coach.
Known as the dribbling magician during his heyday, Mohammed Polo who was part of the Black Stars 1978 African Cup of Nations winning squad has not hidden his displeasure with regard to the appointment of current Hearts of Oak gaffer, Edward Nii Odoom.

“Hearts of Oak need a coach with pedigree and clout. Everybody can develop it because it’s a chance but I don’t know what they saw and they gave him [Nii Odoom] the job. What he can do is what he’s doing. Those who gave him the job don’t they have eyes? If you want cheap things you will get cheap results,” Polo told Asempa FM and was quoted by GhanaSoccerNet.com.
But in his latest media interaction, the idol of Ghana’s Legendary Abedi Pele has tried to gather support for Edward Nii Odoom, whom he chastised few months back.
Polo opined that it didn’t go down well with him when management of the club then addressed him as a caretaker coach. Advising that management members support the current coach either than that it’ll be difficult for the coach to work.
He added that for someone who was joining the club for the second time, how he was addressed didn’t go down well with him.

“The way they addressed the letter, they addressed me as a caretaker of the club. The secretary then didn’t know his job and should have been relieved off post. It really pained me, I felt very bad. Even the time I took the team, look at the work I did, but the management never supported me.
“How can a coach that took the team to Africa be labeled as a caretaker coach. Management shouldn’t also turn scout to look for players for the coach. How can board members meddle in the work of the coach, board members don’t have to decide for the coach and that’s something I will never accept” – Coach Mohammed Polo on Connect FM.
