Prosper Ogum, Asante Kotoko’s head coach, has vowed to turn around the team’s poor run of form following their fourth consecutive loss of the season against Nations FC on Sunday.
The Porcupine Warriors, who were previously considered title contenders, have failed to find their groove in recent weeks, with injuries and defensive mistakes adding to their woes.
In the most recent defeat, Kotoko custodian Mohamed Camara was at fault for both of Nations FC’s goals. The first occurred after Camara mistimed an aerial ball, allowing Nafiu Sulemana of Nations FC to score from close range.
The second goal followed a similar pattern, with Faisal Charwetey intercepting Camara’s bad clearing and scoring his ninth of the season.
The defeat prolonged Kotoko’s losing streak, with their previous win coming on matchday seven against defending champions Samartex.
Since then, the club has struggled, failing to score in their last three games and becoming increasingly out of sync. The loss of leading scorer Albert Amoah, who has been sidelined with a knee injury incurred against Heart of Lions, has exacerbated the team’s problems.
Despite rising pressure, Ogum is determined to resolve the difficulties and return Kotoko to winning ways.
“I will turn things around. The supporters are not happy, and I’m not happy. This is the time to fix things, so the supporters should have a little patience. Kotoko is known for winning games, so obviously, everyone wouldn’t be happy after losing four games in a row. We know where we are failing, and we are working hard to correct it. It’s a tough period, but I believe in the players and their ability to bounce back” Ogum said in an interview after the defeat.
