Emerse Faé, the interim coach for Ivory Coast, revealed in an interview that he defeated Nigeria in the U17 tournament when he was younger and that he will defeat them once more as a coach.
Following his successful maneuver to advance Ivory Coast to the finals on home soil, he made a statement during a press conference. Ivory Coast went through at the expense of Ghana.
The Elephants, who have already won the cup twice, will lift it a third-time thanks to Faé. They most recently won the cup in Equatorial Guinea against Ghana on penalties.
In response to the question of whether he can defeat Nigeria given that the Super Eagles defeated them in the group stages, Faé made the following remarks:
“It was unexpected, it was complicated. I remember that when I was a young player I won the World Cup U17, we lost against Nigeria in the group match and we beat them in the final. Maybe it’s a sign of destiny…”
The match is scheduled to be played on Sunday, as Nigeria will be looking forward to making it four to equal their fierce rivals, Ghana. Conversely, Ivory Coast has a chance to win it three times.
