President Akufo-Addo has expressed his doubt whether galamsey activist, Aisha Huang was really deported from Ghana as reported sometime back.[ads2]
Aisha Huang, a Chinese national was recently arrested alongside three others for their involvement in illegal mining activities popularly referred to as ‘galamsey’.
Her arrest came as shocking to many Ghanaians since she was reported to have been ejected from Ghana years ago for her involvement in illegal mining activities.[ads3]
Speaking in relation to Aisha Huang’s recent arrest, President Akufo-Addo said the Chinese national has become a kingpin in galamsey activities in the country and not sure whether she was deported as reported years ago.
“I’m not still sure whether she (Aisha Huang) was in fact deported or whether she fled the country the first time, and has now come back”, President Akufo-Addo is quoted by Kessbenonline in a radio interview on Stone City in the Volta Region on Tuesday, September 13, 2022.[ads4]
“…but whatever, there still seem to be some uncertainty about it, but whichever way it is, she has become some sort of nickname for all that galamsey represents and unfortunately, for the involvement of Chinese nationals in Ghana”, the President added.
Aisha Huang and her other accomplices have currently been remanded in police custody after she was arraigned before the Accra Circuit Court few days ago.
The Attorney-General and Minister of Justice has called for the docket and promised to prosecute her for the first offences prior to 2018 in addition to the new one.
Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo is currently in touring the Volta Region to inspect and commission government projects in the region.[ads5]
