The President and Board Chairman of the Ghana Rugby and Board Member of the Ghana Olympic Committee Mr. Hebert Mensah has sent a congratulatory message to the International Olympic Committee and the Ghana Olympic Committee as they celebrate the International Olympic Day.
All around the world, June 23 has been set as a day for the celebration of the International Olympic Day which was introduced in 1948 to commemorate the birth of the modern Olympic Games on 23 June 1894 at the Sorbonne in Paris.
The goal for celebrating the day is to promote participation in sport across the globe regardless of age, gender or athletic ability.
As part of the celebration, the former Asante Kotoko Executive Chairman has sent a congratulatory message to both the International Olympic Committee and the Ghana Olympic Committee.
In his message, Mr. Mensah said, ” Today is the Olympic Day, it’s comes once a year, June 23 and we are part of the movement’.
“I just want to congratulate the Ghana Olympic Committee for what they continue to do in celebrating the Olympic day tellers , move and discover ,they are always promoted all round the world.
“For us [Ghana Rugby], we know is about participation, working as a team, the strength and pillars that make up rugby which are bond out of the same and plus more, are fundamental to all of us which is why we are part of the movement.
In conclusion, Mr. Hebert Mensah added that, “In this time of Covid-19 where everything in the world has come to a standstill, we the administrators are still working behind the scenes to make sure that the values and key issues are remembered.”
“Today is all about the Olympics and what it stands for and for all our participations and I just want to say a Happy Olympic Day to all.”

About International Olympic Day
Olympic Day was introduced in 1948 to commemorate the birth of the modern Olympic Games on June 23, 1894 at the Sorbonne in Paris. The goal was to promote participation in sport across the globe regardless of age, gender or athletic ability.
The Ancient Olympic Games were religious and athletic festivals held every four years at the sanctuary of Zeus in Olympia, Greece. This cessation of hostilities was known as the Olympic peace or truce. This idea is a modern myth because the Greeks never suspended their wars.
