Black Stars skipper Andre Ayew has reacted to a growing debate on the penalty awarded to the Black Stars in crucial game against South Africa on Sunday.
Ayew scored the only goal in the all-important game in the 33rd minute from the spot after Daniel Amartey was fouled in the box.[ads2]
The South Africans believe the Senegalese referee Ndiaye Maguette’s decision was incorrect and have decided to petition CAF and FIFA.
But Andre Ayew insists “it was a clear penalty” as Daniel Amartey was truly fouled in the penalty box by the South Africa defender.[ads3]
At the post-match conference, Andre Ayew said, βIt was a clear penalty on [Amartey]. In fact, we had chances to get more penalties and should have been given two more.β
βI think we had more clear chances. Yes, it was a tough game but we won this game fair and square. We could have scored more,β he added.
The narrow victory has qualified Ghana to the playoff round of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers with the draw expected in December.[ads5]
