Zekay has dashed out reasons he’s geeked about the Jama Genre and reveals the genre is missing in the Ghana Music Industry.
But Takoradi-based musician Isaac Affum popularly known as Zekay has revealed despite the little recognition given to the Jama genre in the Ghana Music Industry, he’s taken it as a project to push it up.
Jama music is often used to give morale especially; athletes when going for a match or before training sessions just to ginger and inspire themselves for the task ahead.
Unlike other music genres, Jama songs are not authored and not commercialized but commonly used by many especially Africans before, during and after a sporting event.

The genre is mostly enjoyed in High Schools, Colleges and Universities.
It’s not a household music genre like highlife, hip-hop, Afropop, afrobeat, gospel, reggae or dancehall but has its own incredible experience.
Zekay explained that he could have chosen to do high life considering his love for the Ghana-originated music genre but decided to do Jama music and be known for such.

Having graduated from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Zekay was a member of the Kantanga Hall where he got the unflinching love for Jama music.
Since then, he has been looking for avenues to propagate the Jama music to the outside world until he had a breakthrough in January this year with his song Single One which is gaining weight in the media waves.

He capitalized on the breakthrough to release another banger dubbed ‘Eda Odo Beeba’ and he is yet to release a video for that one.
Speaking in an interview with MzGee on TV3’s NewDay Morning Show, Zekay narrated why he decided to do Jama music despite the challenges it poses.
He said “I believe that in Ghana Music Industry that genre [Jama] is missing despite being the mother of all music genres because there’s Jama in every song.
“I was at the Kantanga Hall of the University of Ghana and Jama is associated with them and I had an immense passion for Jama songs during those days at the tertiary. So that’s why I decided to do Jama songs aside other musical genres.
“I want to make Jama a household genre in the Ghana Music Industry. I do it to entertain and so far, I have gotten massive supports from Ghanaians”, Zekay added.
