John Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has proposed the deployment of nurses, in particular, to other nations as a way to combat unemployment among healthcare workers.
Mr. Mahama contends that rather than letting nurses stay unemployed in Ghana, sending them overseas would be a more beneficial course of action.
In his speech to student nurses in the Savannah Region, Mr. Mahama emphasized the significance of providing job opportunities for nurses upon completion of their education.
He proposed creating a specialized unit within the Ministry of Employment with the responsibility of finding nurses who fulfill the requirements for deployment abroad to carry out this plan.
If elected, he promises to ensure that the rate of unemployment is significantly lower than it is now.
“We will hire as many health workers and nurses as we can to boost our output, but we also plan to enter into agreements with other nations so that we can send our nurses abroad to work on fixed contracts.
Accordingly, Mr. Mahama said, “We will have a unit under the Ministry of Employment that can recruit nurses and make sure they are of the standard that can work in international hospitals.”
