Forward Baba Hamadu Musah has revealed that Johnson Smith’s departure was a contributory factor to Skyy Football Club’s failure to qualify to the Betpawa Premier League.
Skyy FC lost the chance to secure the sole slot available in the Division One League Zone Two to Nations FC despite a fine start to the season which saw the Daboase-based side sit atop the league log for the majority of the season.
Skyy FC were docked six points on grounds of double registration of player Victor Edgan JNR/Victor Mends which played to the advantage of Nations FC.
Coach Johnson Smith also left the club in a dramatic fashion to join Nations FC who eventually qualified as winners of Zone 2 of the 2022/23 Access Bank Division One League .
Striker Baba Hamadu Musah told Stephen Kwame Yeboah of Connect FM in an interview that the absence of the experience gaffer[Johnson Smith] affected the chances of Skyy FC making it to the Betpawa Ghana Premier League.
“Yes, to be frank it affected us, because when you look at the relationships and understanding we built with the Coach when we started the season was very exciting.
“The way he was talking to us during training and match days, almost all the players loved him, when the news came out before our game against Nations FC, it came as a shock but we couldn’t do anything about it since it was a management issue”.
Baba Hamadu Musah emerged as top scorer with 20 goals with 11 assists and 11 MVP’s in 29 appearance appearances in the just ended 2022/23 Access Bank Division league.
The Skyy FC goal poacher is been linked with a move to a number of Ghana Premier clubs with the likes Medeama sc, Samartex and newly promoted side Nations FC leading the race to sign the young goal poacher from Skyy FC
Hamadu , who is a former U.15 National goalking picked his best game in the 2022/23 Division One League to be their away match against WAFA in Gomoa and his worst game to be their game against Future stars away..
He again reaffirmed that life in Division one is a tidious one and any player who excels in that league can play anywhere in Ghana”
“ Playing in Division One is very difficult because it’s comes with a lot of issues, intimidation and the rouged nature of play because most of the players in Division One are not as matured as those in the premier league which makes it very difficult to play.
