Former Asante Kotoko management member, Solomon Ofosu-Ware otherwise known as Chairmam Solo has attributed the team’s abysmal performance this season to bad recruitment.
He believes the team’s failure to defend the Ghana Premier League title this season is as a result of lack of quality players in the club.
Speaking to Kumasi-based Ezra FM, Chairmam Solo stated that Asante Kotoko problems started after the sacking of former coach Dr Prosper Nartey Ogum who guided the team to the league title last season.
“Our problems this season started moment after sacking coach Ogum and frankly I don’t know what inspired that decision. Comparing our squad this season to that of last season, it’s clear that we lack quality players”, he said.
He however declared his intention to contest Christopher Damenya as the leader of the supporters’ front.
“Kotoko NCC leadership are not doing the best of work. Chairmam Christopher Damenya has not done even 10 percent of what he promised Asante Kotoko supporters. He [Christopher Damenya] is not fit enough to lead Kotoko, he is a good person but has failed as the overall leader of the supporters”, he said.
Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko currently sit fourth on the Ghana Premier League table with 47 points will need to win all three final games and expect Medeama, Aduana Stars, and Bechem United to drop points before getting their hands on the league title.
Kotoko will host Karela United in matchday 32 of the Ghana Premier League at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Sunday, May 28, 2023 before playing Accra Lions and Dreams FC.
