The National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) acting Director of Elections, Daniel Amartey Mensah has expressed his gratitude to voters at Kumawu for voting for the party in the by-election.
The NDC lost the by-election to the ruling NPP in a landslide margin on Tuesday, May 23, 2023.
Ernest Yaw Anim of the NPP won the by-election with a huge gap against his main competitors Kwasi Amankwaa of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Kwaku Duah Snr who contested as an independent candidate.
Ernest Yaw Anim who is an astute accountant accumulated 15, 264 votes against Kwasi Amankwaa and Kwaku Duah Snr who amassed 3,723 and 2,497 respectively.
He has replaced Philip Basoah who was announced dead on March 28, 2023 hence the by-election.
Despite losing heavily to the NPP, Daniel Amartey says the NDC votes appreciated by fifty percent which is a good sign ahead of the 2024 general elections.
“We went into the Kumawu elections to win and we couldn’t but the results is encouraging. Our votes appreciated with a little by 50% in Kumawu and it’s a good sign”, he told Accra-based Ahotor FM.
“The NDC will thank the people of Kumawu for their vote, it means alot to us and thanks to Dr. Kwabena Duffour too. Looking at the results from the Kumawu by-election, the 2024 elections in the Ashanti Region will be interesting”, he added…
