The Secretary to the Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral of Ghana, Reverend Victor Kusi Boateng has been directed by court to serve North Tongu MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa in the contempt case through the Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin.[ads2]
This was disclosed by the South Dayi MP Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor while speaking to journalists after the contempt case against Mr Ablakwa was adjourned by the court on Tuesday, February 21 until the service is done properly.
He said, “The matter has been adjourned sine die for the applicants to put their House in order. The court has directed them to do the appropriate thing by having him served as constitutionally provided through the Speaker of Parliament.[ads3]
“When that is done then the processes that we have elected to be filed as a matter of consequences, we can rely on it to file further processes as a result of proper service. Until that is done there is no matter.”
Reverend Victor Kusi Boateng, filed a motion, praying the court to commit Mr Ablakwa to prison for his conduct.
The opposition lawmaker had kicked a writ meant to be served on him by a court bailiff on Friday, February 3.[ads4]
He had given the pretext that he was on his way to Parliament when the bailiff approached him at the forecourt of Accra-based Metro TV to be served Rev Kusi Boateng’s writ.
The writ was to restrain the lawmaker from further making pronouncements on the clergyman’s case of double identity because the matter was before the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ).
The motion is to draw the attention of the court over a possible contempt case against the lawmaker.[ads5]
