Former President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi, has stated that he has no plans to return to football administration even after his ban is lifted.
Speaking in an interview with Kumasi-based Kessben FM, Nyantakyi expressed his disinterest in returning to mainstream football management, citing the ordeal he went through during his tenure.
“I’m not returning to football once my ban is over. What they did to me was an attempt to actually kill me. While I still have an interest in football, I will not consider returning to mainstream administration for the time being,” he said.
Nyantakyi, who led the GFA for over a decade, saw his tenure end in controversy after he was implicated in a corruption scandal following an investigative exposé by journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas in 2018. The FIFA-imposed ban initially handed him a lifetime suspension, which was later reduced to 15 years.
Despite his absence from football administration, Nyantakyi remains a notable figure in Ghanaian football circles. His latest comments suggest he may continue to follow the sport but without a formal role in its governance.
His remarks have sparked reactions among football fans and stakeholders, with some expressing disappointment that a man who once played a pivotal role in Ghanaian football development has chosen to stay away from the game. Others believe his decision is understandable given the challenges he faced.
It remains to be seen whether Nyantakyi will maintain his stance in the long run or reconsider his position in the future.
