As Ghana prepares for the 2024 elections, Haruna Iddrisu, former Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Tamale South, has urged young people to take part in a peaceful political process.
Speaking at the 2024 Young Professionals and Youth Coalition Transform Summit at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, the congressman stated that preserving the country’s peace should be a top priority for everyone as we approach elections.
The outspoken lawmaker said that recent upheavals in Kenya should serve as a wake-up call for Ghanaian politicians.
“I do not want to set a Kenyan example in Ghana, but political elites, including myself, must be guided by developments in Kenya and not take the Ghanaian people’s aspirations for granted.” And not to take the populace’s real concerns for granted.“Ghana is going into a crucial 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections. As young people, dedicate yourself to exercise your civic constitutional duty in a manner that is responsible, guarantees peace, and the existence of our country. Ghana is all we have, therefore, all of you must show a commitment to preserve the unity, peace, and tranquility of our country”, he advised.
