Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama has explained why his wife Lordina Mahama is conspicuously missing from the political scene.
Many have been asking the whereabout of the former first lady in this political season when her husband is vying to become the president of the republic again.

But speaking on Asempa FM, the former president has explained that his wife has been out of the political scene due to a traumatization that she went through in 2016 prior to the elections.
He stated that there were lies spreading across the length and breath of the country about his wife which was a deliberate attempt by the then opposition party, NPP and that caused the former first lady a lots.

“In 2016, there were a lot of lies against her [Lordina] so she was a bit traumatised by the experience so she wants to take a back role, let me do my politics,” he said.

Mr. Mahama went ahead to state that his wife is currently focusing on her foundation and should the NDC be declared winner of the forthcoming general elections, she will continue to focus on her foundation.
He added that currently the NDC has a female vice presidential flagbearer and a Gender Minister would be appointed to take care of anything relating to women empowerment.
