Jean-Louis Gasset, the former coach of the Ivory Coast National Team, the Elephants, has been appointed as Olympique de Marseille’s new temporary head coach.
After positions at Paris Saint-Germain, AS Saint-Etienne, Montpellier HSC, and Bordeaux, the former manager of the Ivory Coast will take over as interim manager until the end of the current campaign. He will then return to Ligue 1 with Uber Eats.
Jean-Louis Gasset has joined the team temporarily, the club announced on Tuesday afternoon, following the departure of Italian manager Gennaro Gattuso.
The 70-year-old will be tasked with revitalizing an Olympien side that has stagnated in the last several weeks. He said on the club’s website,
“It’s a huge honor for me to be joining this legendary club, Olympique de Marseille,” Gasset told OM’s official website on joining the club.”I can’t wait to start working with this group to prepare for the upcoming fixtures and give the best of ourselves.”
After winning just one game during the group stages, Jean-Louis Gasset was fired as manager of the Elephant AFCON team. Ivory Coast replaced him with Emerse Fae as they went on to clinch the title.
