Asante Kotoko pulled a huge surprise at the Crosby Awuah Memorial Park on Sunday as they defeated Karela United 2:0.
Goals from Imoro Ibrahim and Kwame Opoku ensured that Asante Kotoko return to Kumasi with the three points.[ads2]
It was a game many thought Karela United who were leading the league log, could easily smack Kotoko at their fortress home ground.
Both clubs started well with Asante Kotoko showing no sign as the visitors as they matched Karela United boot-for-boot in Ayinase on a scochy Sunday afternoon.[ads3]
Former Karela United defender, Imoro Ibrahim opened the deadlock for Asante Kotoko in the 38th minute.
Though Asante Kotoko had scored the opener, many thought the deadly attacking duo so far this season; Kwame Boateng and Diawisie Taylor will come to the party and secure Karela United from the gutters.
But nothing of that sort manifested as the first half ended 0:1 advantage Asante Kotoko kind courtesy Imoro Ibrahim’s 38th minute goal.[ads4]
The second half saw reenergized Karela United dominating the early minutes of the match but that didn’t yield any result for the Pride and Passions.
As expected, in-form Kwame Opoku showed Diawisie Taylor how ‘Big Boys’ easily changed the face of a game with a beautiful goal in the 65th minute to give Asante Kotoko a 0:2 lead.
This angered Diawisie Taylor and infuriated the beast side in him, the former Goldstars FC talisman nearly had the consolation but his thunderbolt strike missed the goal pole by an inch.
