At least three soldiers and two members of a vigilante group have been killed by a militia group that has been terrorizing parts of Nasarawa State.
The LGA’s chairman, Abdullahi Tashas, and state legislator Ibrahim Saad, who represents the Ugya-Umaisha constituency, confirmed the tragic news.
In the Toto local government area of the state, in the Katakpa community, the attackers ambushed the soldiers, resulting in the attack.
According to sources, the Bassa and Egbira communities in the Toto LGA have been at war over boundary demarcation despite numerous meetings called by the state government to put an end to the fighting.
They clarified that following the militia group’s repeated attacks on Toto communities, the soldiers had been deployed to preserve peace in the area. It was claimed that the soldiers had been ambushed and killed by the same Bassa militia.
The Nigerian army was still investigating the incident at the time this report was submitted.
