Former Ghana defender, John Paintsil, has opined that the appointment of Milovan Rajevac as Black Stars new head coach is erroneous.
The Serbian tactician is on the verge of becoming the new Ghana head coach after the sacking of CK Akonnor over poor performance.[ads2]
Akonnor was fired after Ghana lost to South Africa in the 2022 world cup qualifiers, having struggled to beat Ethiopia 1:0 in the first game at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.
The Ghana FA then set up a three-member committee to search for a new head coach for the Black Stars, and after a thorough search submitted 67-year old Milovan Rajevac as the right man for the national team job.
Coach Rajevac headed the Ghana national team from 2008-2010 where he took the team to the World Cup quarterfinals in 2010. Early that year, he guided the Black Stars to their first Afcon final in 20 years.[ads3]
The former Algeria national team coach is close to landing the Black Stars job, agreeing a monthly salary of $45,000.00 with the Ghana Football Association.
But John Paintsil who was a key member of the Ghana squad under Milovan Rajevac believes the timing of of the return of Milovan Rajevac is wrong and will be difficult for him to qualify Ghana for the world cup in Qatar.[ads4]
“If it is true Milo is taking over the job then I will say the timing is wrong because how well does he know this current team,” Painstil said on Angel FM.
“Our time was different because all the players were already made and it will take only a miracle to help him qualify this team.”
Ghana currently boast of only three points after two matches in the world cup qualifiers and will face Zimbabwe in next matches.[ads5]
