The Parliament of Ghana by a majority decision approved the appointment of Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Hawa Koomson and Akoto Afriyie.
The three were earlier rejected by the Minority members of parliament on the Appointment Committee after their vetting.
But on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 the three ministers-designate have been approved by the floor of Parliament by a majority decision.[ads2]
After 265 ballot casted by the floor of Parliament, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah who is the information minister-designate had 155 ‘yes’ votes representing 58.65% as against 110 ‘no’ votes while Hawa Koomson, minister-designate for Fisheries and Aquaculture had 161 ‘yes’ votes representing 60.75% as against a 104 ‘No’ votes.
Owusu Afriyie Akoto, minister-designate for Food and Agriculture also had 143 ‘yes’ votes representing 53.96‰ as against 121 ‘No’ votes with a one spoilt ballot.[ads4]
Meanwhile, Parliament has approved ten nominees on a consensus with theirs via voice vote.. The minority abstained from the vote when the question was put by the speaker.
Parliament has thus approved all the 13 nominees contained in the first report of the appointments committee.
