The Black Stars of Ghana lost their second match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in a 1:0 scoreline against Comoros on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at the Omnisports Stadium.
Following their victory over Madagascar in Kumasi in the opening game, Ghana entered the match as the clear favorite.
Ghana was expecting to defeat Comoros and move up to the top of Group I, but things didn’t work out that way.Below are the lessons learnt as Comoros defeat Ghana;
1)The bad first-half trend persists.
Since Chris Hughton took over, Ghana has consistently played poorly in the first half of games, and this continued against Comoros. In that first half, Comoros dominated the Black Stars in every facet, holding 55% of the ball, having three shots on goal to Ghana’s zero, and forcing Ofori into two crucial saves.
2)Ghana has a porous and poor defence.
Salis Abdul Samed, Nicholas Opoku, and other players watched on helplessly as Myziane Maolida was shooting, and no action was taken to stop him, giving him a free room to score.This points to Chris Hughton’s fear of conceding therefore parading a rigid and defensive midfield thus,a double pivot of Abdul Salis Samed and Baba Iddrisu.
3) Wastefulness upfront cost Ghana
The Black Stars lost the game because they did not take their chances. The home crowd would have been silenced if Antoine Semenyo had scored on that early opportunity, but he wasted it. The same thing happened when Inaki Williams missed the mark from a clear early in the second The attackers will have to do more to get the goals for Ghana.
With two games played, Comoros leads Group I with six points, followed by Mali in second place with four, and Madagascar and Ghana in third place with three apiece. A point has also been earned by Central African Republic, while Chad is at the bottom after two games with no points.
