On Wednesday, December 23, the MTN Ghana Foundation presented a cheque of Gh¢71,000.00 to the authorities at the University of Cape Coast.
The money is to support about twenty-four (24) students at the University who are on the MTN Bright Scholarship scheme.
At the presentation, the acting Corporate Services Executive at MTN Ghana, Mr. Robert Kuzore explained the rationale behind the MTN Bright Scholarship scheme.
According to Mr. Kuzore, MTN Ghana understand fully that education is paramount to the growth of every country thus the company taking upon themselves to support brilliant but needy students to have a tertiary education.
He stated that currently, the MTN Bright Scholarship scheme has about 1551 students scattered across the various state-owned tertiary institutions nationwide with UCC alone harboring 24 of them
Mr. Kuzore was happy to mentioned that four out of the twenty-four students recently graduated from the University of Cape Coast with first class honours, an incredible mark he want the remaining twenty students to achieve same to make the huge investment from MTN Ghana Foundation not wasteful.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Johnson Nyarko Boampong was grateful to MTN Ghana Foundation for the presentation and support given to these needy students inspite of the Coronavirus challenges.
He pleaded with the management of the MTN Ghana Foundation to also look at helping some of the distance learning students who are facing difficulties in terms of means to continue with their online studies.
Professor Nyarko Boampong however urged the remaining twenty students at the University who are still on the MTN Bright Scholarship scheme to study harder to achieve their dreams and aspirations in life.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed their deep gratitude to MTN Ghana Foundation for the support and promised to study harder to ginger the foundation to help others who are on the road.
So far, MTN Bright Scholarship has produced over 1,000 top quality graduates in the country in areas of Administration, Agriculture, Education, Biological Sciences, Commerce and Finance, ICT, Laboratory Technology, Law, Medicine, Nursing and Midwifery, and among others and this has contributed to the human capital development of the country.
