The Chief Executive Officer of Big Joe Ventures in Kasoa in the Central region, Samuel Okyere has won the ultimate prize at this year’s edition of the MTN Momo Agents and Merchants Awards.
The awards ceremony was held at the Best Western Plus Atlantic Hotel in Takoradi on Saturday, December 10 with Samuel Okyere receiving a motorbike and a cash of Gh¢50,000 emerging as the overall winner
Mr Okyere emerged the best MoMo agent for South West Business District ahead of other 275 mobile money partners which was made up of two hundred agents, fifty merchants and Twenty five mobile money agents.
Lawson Latsu of Lawson Ventures in Kasoa who won the the ultimate prize last year came 2nd and received GH 20,000 electronic cash plus a Motorbike while People’s Investment from Gomoa Akotsi also in the Central Region came 3rd with a prize money of GH 10,000 electronic cash plus a Motorbike.
Senior Manager , MTN Mobile Money Limited operations, Ruth Baidoo presented the award to the 1st and 2nd runners up respectively.
In the Top 3 Merchants Award category, Poncujo Ventures from Winneba in the Central Region came 1st, Ayax Company Limited from Kasoa Galilea placed second with Franbenad Ventures from Takoradi in the Western region picking the third place.
They all received a brand new Laptop from the Senior Manager for MTN South West, Prince Owusu Nyarko.
Also in the top 3 Mobile Agents award category, Janet Ayensu from Kasoa, Central Region came t 1st and received a prize [Motorbike plus GH 2000] , Rita Mensah from Takoradi, Western Region came 2nd with a [Motorbike plus GH 1000] whiles Enock Nkrumah from Cape Coast in the Central Region picked the 3rd place with a Motorbike.[ads3]
Speaking at the grand ceremony, The Acting CEO of MTN Mobile Money Limited, Mr. Shaibu Haruna took the opportunity to acknowledge the remarkable efforts of his predesessor, the former CEO of MTN Mobile Money Limited, Mr Eli Hini, for his critical role in MoMo’s evolution and urged all to continue to maintain and grow the legacy he led the team to build in Ghana.
” In 2009, we set out to redefine the course of Ghana’s financial sector with the launch of MoMo. It has been a little over a decade now and the impact and success stories have been immeasurable. This has come about because of the unwavering commitment and contributions of you, our cherished stakeholders, and partners”, he said.
He added that; “many people have played major roles in the MoMo success story, however, permit me to use this opportunity to single out and acknowledge the remarkable efforts of one man who has played a very instrumental and critical role in Momo’s evolution. Let us give our former CEO Eli Hini a big of applause in appreciation for how far MoMo has come under his leadership.
“I personally wish Eli well as he takes up another challenge to drive uptake of MoMo usage in the Nigerian Market. Indeed, he has left me with very big shoes to fill. I am up to the task with the support of all our partners. Let us all continue to maintain and grow the legacy he led the team to build in Ghana.

Mr. Shaibu Haruna continued that “with the support from 250,000 agent points across all sixteen regions of the country, our numerous
customers nationwide can make transactions wherever and whenever they need to.”
He said over 200,000 merchants who have accepted to use MoMo for payments of goods and services have continued to support the company towards their commitment to driving a cash-lite economy.
Mr Haruna indicated that, “currently MTN MoMo subscribers stand at 11.3 million due to the tireless efforts of mobile agents who travel the length and breadth of Ghana, growing our subscriber base.”
“The issue of fraud prevention is particularly important in our operations and as partners, we continue to count on your support in educating customers and recording Zero fraud cases in your operations. I am counting on your unwavering support to continue building on the successes and strides we have made in the coming years to make MTN MoMo the most preferred digital payment platform in Ghana”, he added.
