As a company committed to women empowerment and equity, MTN Ghana has reinvigorated its commitment to support female training in ICT.
The telecommunication as part of activities to mark its 25th anniversary, donated a whopping Gh10million to the Ministry of Communication and Digitalisation flagship programme dubbed “Girls-In-ICT”.
The programme is aimed at encouraging and empowering girls and young women to consider studies and careers in the growing field of ICTs, enabling both girls and technology companies to reap the benefits of greater female participation in the ICT sector.
The programme commenced in the Western North Region days ago in five districts namely; Boadi, Suaman, Akontombra, Aowin and Prestea Huni-Valley. Over 1000 young girls participated in the programme which came to its climax on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at Sefwi Wiawso.
Speaking at the celebration, the Senior Manager of Network Performance, Louisa Ama Sosu, on behalf of the Chief Corporate Services Officer Sam Koranteng, lauded the Minister of Communication and Digitalisation Ursula Owusu Ekuful for the initiative, and said, “MTN is investing 10 million into the entire initiative over the next three years. This is indeed a great investment into the future of Girls in ICT.”
Mrs. Sosu indicated that the national broadband infrastructure development programme for the ICT Sector, with a special focus on providing total connectivity to the unserved and underserved communities across the country is a laudable intervention worth commending, and MTN is confident that these interventions will all provide solid foundations to scale the Girls in ICT initiative.
She said MTN is endorsing a global movement to ensure that female children are not left out of the plethora of future opportunities that access to technology brings and admitted that government and the ministry are extremely passionate about equipping and nurturing young female talents to compete on a global scale, and as such have consistently and significantly over the last 4years invested in this initiative.[ads4]

“To our mentees, I would like to encourage you to fully utilize this opportunity and many others that would come to adequately prepare you for future job markets.
“Read wide, ask questions, get mentors and constantly develop yourself. The future is digital, and you are very fortunate to be part of this program. Don’t waste it. Beyond this program try and read more and practice more if you have the resources.
“Also, put technology at the heart of your development plan as this will give you a competitive advantage over your peers and career mobility to earn more.”
