Minister for Inner-City Affairs and Zongo Development, Sheikh Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid has said booted against John Mahama’s promise of building mortuaries for Muslims across the country when voted as President in the forthcoming general elections.
John Mahama who is the flagbearer for the main opposition party, National Democratic Congress (NDC) is said to have stated during his manifesto launch that he will build more mortuaries for the Muslim communities when he becomes the president of the republic again in the December polls.

Though the NDC have denied that their flagbearer never said that during the manifesto launch, Dr. Abdul-Hamid believes “Muslims within the zongo communities don’t need mortuaries because the Islamic tradition does not allow the keeping of dead bodies for a longer period.”

“If you are sent to a hospital and in less than 24 hours you die, the law mandates the hospital to conduct an autopsy [and] determine the cause of your death. Normally, if you are already admitted in a hospital for about a week or two the doctors know what they have been treating you for and so when you die, it’s easier for your body to be released to your family,” he said on Citi FM..

He stated that, instead the NDC should have assured that, “When we come into power, we will establish a regime within the hospitals that allows Muslim bodies to be released early for them to do their burial”.
